Swanage Middle School is set in spacious grounds in the beautiful Purbeck countryside on the outskirts of Swanage, gateway to the Jurassic coast World Heritage Site.  It has excellent general and specialist facilities.  The well qualified, experienced, enthusiastic and committed staff encourage pupils to become independent responsible learners able to co-operate with others; to persevere with challenging tasks and develop a lifelong love of learning.  The warm and friendly atmosphere which is obvious within the school comes from the good working relationships which are enjoyed by staff, pupils, governors and parents alike.

Swanage Middle School has a full inclusion policy, admissions policy, disability action plan and safeguarding policy, which can be found the the governance\policies section of this web site. The school recognises that the welfare of the child is paramount and takes seriously its responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of the children and young people in its care. Mrs D Gregory is the school's designated person responsible for child protection and can be contacted through the school office.  It is the local community school, yet has a global outlook welcoming all children in the 9 – 13 age range.  The school has a partner school in Cherbourg and has achieved the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award.  The school participates in local events and celebrations, raising money for local, national and international charities and uses many of the skills of the community to enhance the work of the school.

The school has an ‘open door’ policy and parents are encouraged to liaise with the school at any time, in recognition that partnership between home, school and pupil is essential for effective learning
