Information & Communications Technology

Information and Communications Technology is an important part of the way pupils are taught and learn at Swanage Middle School. The use of ICT to enhance learning is firmly rooted in all subject areas in the school and is a very popular area with pupils. We are fortunate in having a well equipped ICT network consisting of two large ICT rooms and an increasing number of computers and peripherals around the school. We use technology such as Interactive Whiteboards and digital cameras to enliven learning activities. In Science, a digital microscope is used to capture images and in Design and Technology the pupils have access to powerful state-of-the-art (cad-cam) computer assisted design and manufacture equipment.
The school benefits from Broadband access to the Internet and a large range of software to support learning in all subject areas. While the emphasis of the ICT curriculum is on developing such areas as word processing, data handling, and researching and presenting information, pupils are encouraged to see the subject as a constantly evolving and fundamental life skill.
The ICT rooms are also opened at lunchtimes for pupils to attend ICT clubs.
INTERNET
All pupils need to take home a letter and agreement to be read and signed by a parent/guardian before their child is allowed to use the Internet at school. Copies are available from the school office or can be downloaded as a PDF from the Useful Links section of this page..
HOME/SCHOOL AGREEMENT
We have a home/school agreement which was devised by a group of teachers and parents with some Year 8 pupils. This agreement is given to every pupil to take home to parents for reading, signing and returning the agreement slip to school. Copies available from the school office.
